Treatments For Compulsive Lying
If compulsive lying is in your nature it can be hard to stop and go back to being truthful once more. But it’s not impossible.
The first step is ironically to be honest with yourself and admit that your repeated lies are causing problems in your life. The next step is to get help for your problem. Not everyone realises that a compulsive liar can receive treatment for their problem, but there are a number of ways that this can happen.
Read through the following options to see which way would be best to help you stop living a lie.
Hypnotherapy
This is a very productive way to deal with compulsive lying. Many people go to see a hypnotherapist and have sessions with them directly, but you don’t need to do this if you don’t want to.
Since hypnotherapy basically entails listening to the voice of your hypnotherapist, you can buy a recording to listen to at home instead. The results that you will get are likely to help greatly in reducing the need to indulge in compulsive lying.
The best results are obtained through listening to a designated programme every day for at least two weeks. This will help your subconscious take on the information you are listening to, so that the instances of compulsive lying can be reduced and then eradicated.
Cognitive behavioural therapy
This is sometimes used to help people who indulge in compulsive lying. The idea is that by talking with the person who is lying, the therapist can help them understand the reasons why they lie.
This type of treatment for compulsive lying will take place over several weeks or perhaps even months. It depends largely on how much progress is made over each session.
Cognitive behavioural therapy can be useful in situations where the person who is lying doesn’t know the reason why they are doing so.
Counselling
More straightforward than cognitive behavioural therapy, standard counselling can take place in one of two ways. It will either be on a one to one basis, or it can be on a group basis. Sometimes the process of meeting with other people who indulge in compulsive lying can help a sufferer to start overcoming their need to lie.
In the end, different treatments will no doubt suit different people. Sometimes those who are in a relationship may decide to go to therapy with their partner, to help repair some of the damage done by their compulsive lying. A lot will depend on the individual situation.
The main thing to remember though is that you do seek some kind of treatment. A self help hypnotherapy programme is the one to use if you would prefer to try a solution on your own, rather than going to a professional. But whichever one you try, make sure you persevere with it. Lying can and has destroyed relationships, so you should ensure that your own doesn’t become one of those statistics.
Why not seek the help you need right now?
